Meet Your Horse Care Coach

Hi there! I’m Rachel, and I’m here to help you navigate the world of horse care with confidence. I’ve had my eldest horse, Tucker, since I was 14 and he was 4 – and I made a LOT of mistakes along the way. He’s now 22 and thriving with his small herd. Trubee joined us about ten years ago, as a chronically lame challenge. Adee joined us a couple years ago as a mustang who rejected all training attempts to become a riding horse. I love riding, but prioritize my horse’s needs high above my desire to ride.

With a degree in Animal Science and a minor in Equine Science, I have the formal education to back up my passion. But, here’s the thing — most of what I’ve learned about keeping horses truly happy (not just healthy) didn’t come from the classroom. It came from years of hands-on experience, trial and error, and listening to my horses.

If you’re new to horse ownership or feel like there are gaps in your knowledge, you’re in the right place. You don’t need years of experience or a formal degree to give your horse the best care possible. You just need the right guidance. That’s where I come in!

I believe anyone can become a confident, informed horse owner — and I’m here to fast-track that journey for you. Let’s skip the overwhelm and uncertainty, and focus on creating the happiest, healthiest life for your horse.

Why work with me?

Let’s do a vibe check.

I am an evidence-based kind of gal. While I do lean heavily on gut feelings for guidance when it comes to life & horses, I will always seek scientific research to back up my care decisions.

Things that bother me include statements like “that’s how it’s always been done” and “that’s just how they are”. And I despise hearing people say a horse is “wasted” because they are not ridden or going to shows.

Horses have evolved with specific needs. There are many ways to care for a horse, but the fundamentals — movement, forage, social interaction, enrichment — are non-negotiable. They are biologically ingrained.

When it comes to riding, I think every horse has their own opinion. I absolutely believe there are horses who love being ridden, Tucker has proven that to me. But I also believe that a lot of horses don’t love it – and they tell us all the time.

I boarded for 15 years before finally moving my horses home. I usually sought out barns that were less busy, kept my horses in pastures where even less people hung out, and visited at odd times to minimize interactions with other humans. I know the uncomfortable dynamics of barn life! But I always felt most empowered when I knew, without a doubt, that I was helping my horses’ live their best lives.

If you’re like me, you’re extra sensitive to comments insulting your horse care practices after feeling like you’ve been feeding your horse your entire heart & soul. You might find yourself googling late at night, looking for more information about a particular choice you’ve made for your horse that someone made you second guess…speaking from personal experience!

You don’t have to feel alone on your horse care journey. Whether you’re new to horses, new to caring for them by yourself, or simply exploring how to improve your horse’s quality of life, I’m here to help!

Generic advice can be confusing, especially when each horse and living environment is SO unique. The abundant amount of information available today can lead you to feel stuck or unsure of the best ways to improve your horse’s quality of life. Questions you might have:

What kind of horse owners do you help?

I work with a range of horse owners—from those who just got their first horse and feel overwhelmed by all the care details, to owners who’ve had horses for years but are starting to notice gaps in their knowledge. I specialize in helping you feel confident in the choices you’re making, whether it’s understanding your horse’s nutrition, improving their environment, or navigating tricky barn dynamics.

If you have one or two specific questions and just need a one-time consultation, the Walk Package is a great fit. If you’re looking for ongoing support and guidance, the Trot package offers regular check-ins. For those who want more in-depth, tailored support, the Canter package gives you the most value.

Email support allows you to ask follow-up questions between coaching calls. In the Trot and Canter packages, you can email me questions, share updates, or get advice on any challenges you’re facing, and I’ll reply within 48 hours. This keeps you on track and supported without waiting for our next call.

That’s exactly why I’m here! I want to create a safe, non-judgmental space for you to ask questions and make decisions that are best for you and your horse. Every horse and every situation is unique, so there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. My goal is to empower you with the knowledge to feel confident in your care choices, no matter what others say. And even if you don’t choose to do things exactly how I do them, you’ll have the knowledge to be confident in your decisions.

Absolutely! I explain everything in a way that’s easy to understand, even if you’re completely new to horse care. I will not judge you for asking for clarification on things that you might feel silly asking about, either. You’ll walk away from our coaching sessions feeling more knowledgeable and capable. Plus, I’ll help you avoid common pitfalls that new horse owners often face, so you’ll feel ready for anything.

Even if you’ve had horses for years, there’s always room for improvement. I know I don’t do everything my horses would appreciate, because I’m learning new things all the time!

If you’ve started doubting that your horse is truly happy, or maybe you’ve been experiencing issues that you just can’t quite explain – I’m happy to offer my support. If you’ve just discovered that your horse is missing some key things in their life and you’re feeling guilty, or maybe your fellow horse people are making you feel silly about the extra steps you’re taking for your horse…I can help guide you through that experience, too.

Yes, you can always upgrade to a higher package if you feel like you need more calls or additional guidance. I’m here to help you at whatever pace feels right for you, so you can adjust your coaching package as your needs evolve.

I have a BS in Animal Science with a minor in Equine Science, which gives me a solid foundation in horse care and management. But most of my knowledge has come from working with horses in real-world settings, solving problems, and figuring out what really keeps them happy and healthy. I’ve owned my eldest horse for the majority of my life, and have worked with horses in many different settings. And I’ve been where you are, and I know how much there is to learn—my goal is to share what I’ve learned in a way that makes it easier and faster for you to apply in your own situation.

Put your horse's happiness first, no matter what others think.
