Designed for Movement
Using Environmental Enrichment to Motivate Natural Movement for Healthier, Happier Horses
Most horses don’t move enough, yet horses were designed to move. Designed for Movement is a program to equip you with the knowledge to transform your horse’s living environment into one that maximizes movement opportunities.
We’ll be covering a lot of the why behind environmental choices, so you can make choices that put your horse’s happiness first no matter where they live. Because every horse deserve to live their best life – and you are the best person to provide that to them.
“All of your tips feel very actionable, and its empowering information for someone who might be new to this. While all your footage is beautiful/inspirational, it never feels unattainable.
So many things are presented to horse people that feel out of reach, you’re making it seem like owners/horse stewards can make a difference even with some little tweaks.”
- Arah McManamna
Right now, your horse might be struggling with:
Boredom and Stable Vices
Horses may develop behaviors like cribbing or pawing due to boredom in confined spaces.
Weight Gain and Fitness Decline
Limited movement leads to weight issues and reduced physical fitness.
Poor Circulatory Health and Stiffness
Inactivity can cause issues like stocked-up legs and stiffness.
By the end of this program, you will know how to provide:
Mental Enrichment
Enrichment strategies to keep horses mentally stimulated, reducing, eliminating or preventing stable vices that may cause harm.
Natural Weight Management
Techniques to encourage movement for better fitness and weight control.
Improved Circulation and Mobility
Layout designs and enrichment that naturally motivate movement, helping prevent stiffness and stocking up.
Designed for Movement is for you if you've been looking for ways to improve your horse's
quality of life
Through a blend of evidence-based insights and practical strategies, you’ll learn how to create an enriching environment for your horse. An environment that stimulates your horse’s physical and mental needs, while ultimately motivating your horse to move more throughout their space. Here’s what I want you to walk away with:
- Understanding what your horse truly needs: Understand the 6 core elements that horses require to thrive, including forage, movement, and mental stimulation. You'll know how to prioritize these needs in your horse’s daily routine.
- Environmental Enrichment Fundamentals: Discover what environmental enrichment means for horses and how it parallels improvements made in the care of other domesticated and captive animals. Learn the science behind enriching an animal’s environment and why it's crucial for your horse's welfare.
- Practical Implementation Strategies: Have actionable ideas that you can implement immediately, regardless of your current setup. From optimizing forage availability to introducing movement motivators and brain-boosting activities, these strategies will help enhance your horse’s quality of life today.
- Confidence in Your Care Decisions: Shift your mindset from feeling overwhelmed by traditional care methods to confidently implementing evidence-based practices that truly support your horse's happiness. Knowledge is power!
Hi there! I’m Rachel, and I’m here to help you navigate the world of horse care with confidence. I’ve had my eldest horse, Tucker, since I was 14 and he was 4 – and I made a LOT of mistakes along the way. He’s now 22 and thriving with his small herd. Trubee joined us about ten years ago, as a chronically lame challenge. Adee joined us a couple years ago as a mustang who rejected all training attempts to become a riding horse. I love riding, but prioritize my horse’s needs high above my desire to ride.
With a degree in Animal Science and a minor in Equine Science, I have the formal education to back up my passion. But, here’s the thing — most of what I’ve learned about keeping horses truly happy (not just healthy) didn’t come from the classroom. It came from years of hands-on experience, trial and error, and listening to my horses.
You don’t need years of experience or a formal degree to give your horse the best care possible. I believe anyone can become a confident, informed horse owner — and I’m here to fast-track that journey for you.
