DIY Homemade Essential Oil Diffuser

Looking for a simple, classy looking diffuser to make at home? Or maybe you’re like me, and want a diffuser RIGHT NOW but do not want to go to the store! If you have the oil you wish to diffuse, a glass jar, and some sticks you’re all set.

Gather some twigs from outside, and break them into nice sizes to fit in your glass jar. A jar with a narrower top works better, like a glass vase, but a mason jar will do just fine as well. You can lightly sand your sticks for a more polished look, or leave them as is for a more rustic look. Using sticks instead of special reeds will not be as effective, but they can definitely play the part, while looking pretty cool too.

Fill the glass jar about 3/4 full with water, and add 20-30 drops of your essential oil(s). The oil will sit at the top of the water, which will serve as a way of diffusing the scent even without the sticks! You can also add other trimmings from your garden for additional flair. I added some lavender which will add to the aroma as well as look pretty.

Decorate your jar to your heart’s desire! These can be great gifts, and if your jar is a mason jar you can package it up with the oil and water mixture inside the sealed jar with the twigs tied to the side. So easy! I have used a few different oils, including a grapefruit oil which was pretty awesome!

  1. The purpose of an essential oil diffuser is to spread the aroma of essential oils throughout a home, deodorizing and purifying the air, making a room smell great, and lifting the mood. Many diffusers, unfortunately, contain artificial fragrances or carrier oils whose phthalate-laden fumes are less than healthy and defeat the purpose of creating a sweet-smelling, purified, and energizing space.
